Yoga

adjective - yo·ga

Yoga (derived from the Sanskrit root "yuj") means to "join" "connect" "union" "oneness"

Yoga is when two or more objects (body, mind, spirit) are joined and in harmony, they become one. The teachings of yoga date back more than 10,000 years ago in the ancient text - Vedas.

The practice of yoga is a lifestyle: how we live in society (Yamas - non-violence, non-stealing, truthfulness, non-accumulation, self-control), how we live with ourselves (Niyamas - cleansing, contentment, self-discipline, self-study, self-surrender), how we balance and heal our physical bodies through (Asanas - physical postures that create stability and comfort for the muscular, skeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, endocrine and reproductive systems), how we stimulate and balance our vital force through (Pranayama - breathing practice), and how we prepare the mind and soul for higher states of consciousness through (Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi - meditation practices)

“The success of Yoga does not lie in the ability to perform postures but in how it positively changes the way we live our life and our relationships.”
