Be: Your Voice & Yoga - 7 Week Chakra Class Series

In this 7-week class series, you will learn to balance your 7 chakras by developing your holistic voice. Each class includes breath exercises, vocal instruction, and yoga poses for the individual chakra. In addition to learning how to tone (sing vowel sounds) on special harmonic frequencies, you can create chakra affirmation songs to activate your powers of self-healing. Each class concludes with the group singing mantras, accompanied by guitar. Handouts will be provided.

Here is an overview of the 7 chakras (main energy centers) in correlation with their 5 elements / catchwords / vowel sound / tones of the musical scale:

1st or Root Chakra: Earth / “I am” / low “uh” / C (C#)

2nd or Sacral Chakra: Water / “I feel” / “oo” / D (D#)

3rd or Solar Plexus Chakra: Fire / “I do” / “oh” / E

4th or Heart Chakra: Air / “I love” / “ah” / F (F#)

5th or Throat Chakra: Ether / “I speak” / “ay” / G (G#)

6th or 3rd Eye Chakra: Ether / “I see” / high “ee” / A (A#)

7th or Crown Chakra: Ether / “I understand” / high “ee” / B

You will explore the musical qualities of each element to balance them in your voice:

Earth: Slow, deep voice / undertoning
Water: Somewhat slow, flowing, and legato voice
Fire: Somewhat fast, medium loud, dynamic, and staccato voice
Air: Fast, high, and light voice / melodies / overtoning
Ether: Silence / all elements in balance

Your Voice and Yoga follows the 7Rs of Healing as developed by Christine M. Grimm:

1 – Reason: Say a positive word of intention (like “healing” or “self-love”)
2 – Relax: Breath and posture check; breath exercises plus yoga poses
3 - Release: Visualization and breath, body shake with sounding, rhythmic
     playing (shakers), and dancing with colored scarves
4 - Regenerate: Humming, toning, and singing
5 - Rest and Reflect: Listen within during quiet time (Shivasana), then speak
     about experience to group
6 - Routines and Rituals: create daily practices to support change
7 - (W)rite: Write in journal and use creative writing as a support; write
     affirmations and set them to music for daily use

There is no pressure to perform, and previous knowledge of singing or yoga is not required. This course creates a supportive atmosphere and can be adapted to any level of ability.

Biography:

Christine M. Grimm studied music and literature at California Lutheran University before getting her Master of Fine Arts at the University of California, Los Angeles. She began practicing yoga in 1990 and became a sound therapist in 1998, followed by training in Kindermusik (music therapy) and Therapeutic Yoga (Cheri Clampett and Arturo Peal). 

She moved to Switzerland in 2015 and established her Vibratuning Voice and Sound Therapy practice in Zurich. Her teachers include Elaine Thomson (GB, Voice Analysis), Dr. John Beaulieu (USA, who certified her as a Biosonics Repatterning Practitioner), Silvia Nakkach (USA, Yoga of the Voice), Dr. Louise Montello (USA, Performance Wellness), and Christian Zehnder (CH, Yoga mit der Stimme). In addition, she is a performing singer/songwriter and combines the two areas in her “Healing Songs” concerts.

Health Investment: 250 CHF early bird 7 classes (before the 1st session) / 40 CHF for single class

Duration: Wednesdays for 7 weeks. 90 minutes
